Alabama Divison SAF 2011 Annual Meeting

The 2011 Annual Meeting was held on a Friday and Saturday this year in a change from our traditional weekday meetings. Attendance was approximately 50 and featured a varied program of topics from growing longleaf pine to the most up-to-date equipment for field forestry work and a Tree Farm Certification/Recertification course at the end of the meeting. Seven CFE's were earned for the primary meeting with registration held to a reasonable $50.

At the Awards Banquet, the Alabama Outstanding Young Forester Award was presented to Nick Granger, AFC County Manager in Coffee County. A Golden Member award was presented to Bob Lowe who amazed everyone when he spoke of the many changes during the past fifty years of forestry.

Chair Chris Erwin announced each Alabama Chapter can receive up to $1,000 in grant money to conduct a 2011 Walk in the Forest. The activity can focus on students, teachers, community leaders or the general public. For more details, email Chris ().

Plans will soon be underway for organizing the 2012 Annual meeting and if you have any suggestions or wish to be involved, contact Chris.
